The cozy log cabin has two queen-sized beds and a full kitchen with a refrigerator, oven, coffee maker, utensils, dish soap, and hand soap. The wood cabin has satellite TV, bedroom linens, and towels also provided. Hoodoo’s Crescent Lake Resort is located in Klamath County, Oregon, about 18 miles east of Crescent and 37 miles southeast of Oakridge. There is a reason you'll find log cabins are still as popular as ever, and that is because log homes are better than conventional construction.

There are several advantages to owning a log or wood cabin over more conventional construction. Longtime homeowners say log and wood cabins offer benefits over the stick and brick homes of their neighbors. The benefits start with the building materials. There is so much to love about choosing wood for your home design, from the beauty of the different tree species to the green advantages it offers, the utility of wood as a building material is undeniably vast and significant. The following are just some of the benefits of using wood.

Beauty. With the wide variety of tree species available, wood can suit many aesthetics. Different species of trees can also provide varied mechanical, acoustic, and thermal properties. Wood's Green Advantage. These days ecological concerns are high. Because of this, the trend was to move away from wood as a building material to prevent deforestation and manage greenhouse gasses. But, a closer look at the reasons for this thinking can prove slightly off track. Wood has several advantages that help both the builder and the environment.

Wood is Renewable. Unlike concrete or metals, wood is a building material that can be grown and regrown through natural processes such as replanting and forestry management programs. Selective harvesting and other practices allow growth to continue while more giant trees are harvested. While the forests are growing (via solar energy), they are also naturally and efficiently removing carbon dioxide from the environment. It's a bonus unique to wood.

Wood Emits Lower Volatile Organic Compounds. As a natural building material, wood emits lower volatile organic compounds (VOCs), and carbon dioxide off-gasses than aluminum, steel, concrete, and plastics. But, this is different from engineered or composite wood products. Wood Enhances Energy Efficiency. Wood has a higher insulation rating because of its natural cellular structure than steel and plastic. This means that homes and buildings require less energy to maintain heating and cooling. Plus, wood can help regulate humidity levels to a small degree.

Wood is Biodegradable. One of the biggest challenges of many building materials, including concrete, metal, and plastics, is that they take an impossibly long time to decompose when they are discarded. When exposed to natural climate conditions, wood will quickly break down and replenish the soil. On the flip side, understanding the role of moisture and wood rot means that in optimum conditions, a building or floor's lifespan can easily outlive a tree's lifespan.
