Experience authentic log cabin living at the Kootenay Park Lodge located in Vermilion Crossing, Alberta. Kootenay Park Lodge is in a national park. During your log cabin vacation stay you can experience Paint Pots Trailhead and Mount Standish Express, along with Banff National Park and Kootenay National Park. The property has a garden, barbecue grills, and a picnic area available on-site. All 11 log cabin accommodations provide conveniences like sitting areas and microwaves, plus balconies or patios and coffee makers.

Kootenay Park Lodge was originally constructed in 1923 by the Canadian Pacific Railway. The main Lodge and surrounding log cabins are a piece of true antiquity, making for an unapologetically rustic mountain experience. From its origin as a destination for adventurous explorers, they have enhanced the log cabins to offer more warmth and coziness. Experience the log cabin lifestyle with freshly cooked meals, baked goods, and more. The log lodge is the only development in Kootenay National Park, it is located approximately 45 minutes from Banff, Lake Louise, and Radium Hot Springs. Located along Highway South at Vermilion Crossing, the vacation property is surrounded by the stunning Picturesque River. The heritage log cabins have been spruced up, yet maintain their original character.

You'll be inspired by the log cabins four of which still have river stone chimneys and wood-burning fireplaces, these finishing touches provide a snug environment to unwind. Two of the modern Vermilion log cabins include gas fireplaces. Lodge dining is available to guests and visitors each evening, the meals are made at the lodge and they use locally sourced products when possible. At the General Store, they offer a wide selection of grab-and-go breakfast items, baked goods, sandwiches, snacks, and coffee. You’ll feel as if you have stepped back in time walking among the historic log cabins and experiencing the friendly service. Kootenay Park Lodge is a beautiful place in harmony with nature where you can observe the many constellations in the night sky. It is best to see the stars during the black moon after 11 pm, with hot chocolate and a campfire. Kootenay Park Lodge is a great setting for star and comet watching as there is no city within a radius of 60 km. of Kootenay National Park.

Complete your log cabin experience with a hike in the mountains, but be aware that trail conditions can change quickly. You'll want to find the latest trail condition reports and closures for Kootenay National Park. Be sure to check back often for up-to-date information. Challenge yourself on the Kindersley-Sinclair Loop through alpine meadows and over mountain ridges, or set out on an ambitious day hike through the naturally fire-swept forest to the active Stanley Glacier. When it comes to hiking you'll want to consider packing some of the following including a trail guide and map, full water bottle or thermos, high energy food, bear spray, sunscreen, sunglasses, first aid kit, headlamp or flashlight with spare batteries, hat and gloves, hiking poles, rain/wind jacket, extra warm clothing in case of an emergency, and cell phone or satellite emergency communication device.
